Revised Animal Breeding Ordinance: Focus on breeding programmes
With the final votes of the 2023 summer session, Parliament has adopted Agricultural Policy 22+ – including the complete revision of the Animal Breeding Ordinance. As reported by *Der Schweizer Bauer*, the revised ordinance places the breeding programmes of the breeding organisations at the centre of support: Whilst these programmes are to remain “largely free” in their design, they must adhere to clear guidelines regarding economic viability, product quality, animal health, resource efficiency and the environment – and, in future, be based increasingly on scientifically recognised methods.
This development is of direct relevance to the recognition of breeding programmes such as that of the HPT (Haflinger Horse Breeding Association of Tyrol) – and thus to our dispute with the FOAG.
